Announcement of the

Lt. Edward J. and Mary Cullen Sullivan College Scholarship Fund

Lt. Edward J. “Doc” Sullivan of 674 Newbury Street in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield retired in 1958 after serving more than 30 years on the Springfield Fire Department. Most of Ed’s service was on Ladder 9 in the old Armory Street Station. Ed died in 1975 and wife Mary died in 1964.

Ed and Mary’s youngest son, Charles O. Sullivan, recently died at the age of 80. In his will, in memory of his parents and siblings Charlie established the Lt. Edward J. and Mary Cullen Sullivan College Scholarship Fund for current and retired uniformed members of the Springfield Fire Department, their spouses, children and grandchildren.

The Sullivan Scholarship Fund will award ten $5000 scholarships to worthy recipients who are sponsored by current and retired uniformed members of the Springfield Fire Department.

If members of the Department know anyone qualified who might be interested in applying for the Sullivan Scholarship Fund, please give them an Application form.

Completed Applications with a letter of recommendation should be submitted in a sealed envelope by August 1, 2018 to:
